I am one of the Consultant Cardiologists based at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford and specialise particularly in cardiac electrophysiology. This is the study of the electrical activity of the heart and treatment of a wide range of conditions associated with heart rhythm abnormalities. The conditions I treat range from very common ones such as Atrial Fibrillation, to rarer genetic problems such as Brugada syndrome. Historically, many of these conditions could only be treated by medication which would control, but not cure, the problem. With advances of modern technology we are now often able to carry out simple but effective procedures which can, in many cases, either cure or significantly alleviate the condition and its symptoms.
